The First National Bank of Long Island, a full service commercial bank in Merrick, is happy to announce that the "Teach Children to Save" Program is being offered to students at Camp Elementary School in Merrick, New York. "We believe teaching children about savings and money is a credible community activity" says President & CEO, Michael N. Vittorio. The Bank’s objective is to promote financial literacy by educating school children about the basic concepts of banking and why it is important to save. As part of the program, the Bank has organized "Banking Days" which include presentations to parents, grandparents and children on the business of banking. Parents of the children can open a passbook savings account for their child(ren) at The First National Bank of Long Island which is conveniently located at 1810 Merrick Avenue. The Bank will collect deposits directly from the school every two weeks and return the passbooks to the classrooms after posting deposits or withdrawals. This is an excellent and easy way for children to learn about the savings process while experiencing the joy of seeing their money grow. The program is part of the American Bankers Association Education Foundation who helps fill the need for financial education by connecting bankers and students.
